DHS Posts Propaganda Video Honoring Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino
The Department of Homeland Security posted it on the same day a federal judge ordered Bovino to come to court every weekday to report on the agency's activities and to wear a body camera.
On the same day a federal judge in Chicago ordered senior Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino to wear a body camera and to appear in court every weekday to report on the day’s activities, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted a propaganda video honoring Bovino.
“We REFUSE to back down from our mission to make America safe,” DHS posted on X. “@CMDROpAtLargeCA [Bovino] is putting his life on the line to protect our citizens, and no amount of radical terror or anarchy will stop us in our mission.”
The video features a montage of images and clips of Bovino, with the text: “We will not be stopped.”
In what the Trump administration has dubbed “Operation Midway Blitz,” masked federal officers have been terrorizing Chicago residents, from raiding an apartment building in the middle of the night to using tear gas on civilians shortly before the start of a children’s Halloween parade.
“Kids dressed in Halloween costumes walking to a parade do not pose an immediate threat to the safety of a law enforcement officer,” U.S. district judge Sara Ellis told Bovino at yesterday’s hearing, as per The Guardian. “They just don’t. And you can’t use riot control weapons against them.”
Ellis ordered the federal government to turn over all use-of-force reports related to “Operation Midway Blitz” since September 2, and bodycam footage.
Bovino has long disregarded people’s civil rights. As I previously reported for Truthout:
Before Trump’s second term began, a federal district court judge ruled that an immigration raid led by Bovino was likely unconstitutional, saying, “You just can’t walk up to people with brown skin and say, ‘Give me your papers.’” Bovino had falsely claimed that agents had a “predetermined list of targets.” However, an investigation by CalMatters showed that Border Patrol had no prior knowledge of immigration or criminal history for 77 of the 78 people they arrested.
The video posted by DHS features a montage of photos and video clips of Bovino, the sort of propaganda that has become commonplace in President Trump’s authoritarian regime.
Bovino himself is active on social media and often engages with those who comment on his posts. Some of his replies are alarming to say the least.
Underneath a propaganda video Bovino posted to X that features masked agents abducting people who appear Latino, one person commented: “I would be proud to be ICE.”
The person’s bio on X states:
AMERICA FIRST means AMERICA 1ST
I block trolls leftists communists and Tran-tifa Homos. I’m not here to meet internet whores so don’t DM.
Bovino replied: “Join up, sir!! We’d be proud to have a Patriot in the ranks!!!!”
As of October 29, Bovino was among the person’s followers.
Underneath another post on Bovino’s page, someone wrote, “Good sir, Big Bear, Ca needs your attention. Illegal aliens moved in cause there’s no ICE or Border Patrol there.
They’ve been recking havoc on taking citizens jobs away with low wages.”
“We may be out that way and will keep it in mind!!!!!! Sadly, this is happening everywhere,” Bovino replied.
