Cuomo Rants Against Socialism on X
The replies were mostly negative, but an AI generated comment from an AI-generated account run by an AI comms group praised the primary loser.
New York City mayoral candidate and Democratic primary loser Andrew Cuomo posted a diatribe against socialism on X:
In the immortal words of a Nobel prize winner, socialism “strips away your autonomy, your conscience, your dignity, your ability to choose. And it does so with a seductive lie. It whispers of equality, but the only equality it delivers is at the bottom—where everyone is dragged down together.” Those words are not words of history. Nobel Laureate Maria Corina Machado said these words when she won the award 2 days ago.
@ZohranKMamdani’s vision for a socialist utopia is delusional at best. Proven to be wrong from Kansas City to Caracas. His politics claims to be hopeful when it fact it is downright deceitful, and it would destroy our city.
There’s a lot to unpack here. First, Machado supports President Trump. She told BBC Mundo that she told Trump “how grateful the Venezuelan people are for what he’s doing, not only in the Americas, but around the world for peace, for freedom, for democracy.”
Trump is, of course, a fascist.
She also supports Israel, which has been carrying out a genocide in Gaza for the last two years.
Venezuelan-American Michelle Ellner wrote for Common Dreams:
Machado isn’t a symbol of peace or progress. She is part of a global alliance between fascism, Zionism, and neoliberalism, an axis that justifies domination in the language of democracy and peace.
The replies to Cuomo’s post were mostly negative, but @CityDeskNYC had his back:
You might notice the “automated” at the top of the comment.
As we reported last week, CityDeskNYC’s profile page states:
Cuomo suffered a devastating defeat to Zohran Mamdani in the June primary — CityDeskNYC joined Twitter the next month.
And so, what’s @rhetor_ai? Well, not surprisingly, it’s more AI:
CityDeskNYC also made an appearance in Cuomo’s comments to praise his new campaign ad.
We emailed Cuomo’s campaign last week to ask if the people in the ad were paid actors and if the Cuomo campaign was affiliated with CityDeskNYC or rhetor_ai. We did not receive a response.
